The Vaccines & Everything Everything 2016 Royal Albert Hall Lithographic Prints
Two bands, one Royal Albert Hall show and a pair of artworks designed to belong together. Created by Josh Townshend for Teenage Cancer Trust, these companion prints commemorate The Vaccines and Everything Everything's performances on 20 April 2016, with each set containing both A2 artworks.
The Vaccines headlined the night in what was their first UK show of 2016, following the previous year's release English Graffiti. Everything Everything joined them after the release of their acclaimed third album Get to Heaven, with Pumarosa opening the show.
Rather than create a conventional gig poster carrying both names, Townshend split the artwork in two. The Vaccines' half takes a darker route, with a large raven perched on a horned skull against a vast desert landscape. A second bird circles above the rocks, while a huge pale sun sits low behind the scene.
The Everything Everything print shares the same landscape and colour palette but changes the mood completely. Butterflies replace the ravens, with one dominating the foreground among desert flowers and another suspended against the sky. Placed together, the matching horizon, typography and complementary imagery make the relationship between the two prints immediately apparent without simply repeating the same design.
There's another connection to the night beyond the artwork. Before performing, members of both bands spent time with young people from Teenage Cancer Trust units taking part in a songwriting workshop inside the Royal Albert Hall. The young musicians created songs inspired by each band and performed them for The Vaccines and Everything Everything ahead of the concert.
Each set is hand signed across both artworks: Justin Hayward-Young signs The Vaccines print, while the Everything Everything print carries the band's signatures. The edition is limited to 100 complete pairs, so the two artworks are sold together as originally conceived.
Printed by Jump in Sheffield, each design is produced as an A2 lithographic print on 240gsm Munken Design Polar Crisp stock. Together they form one of the more unusual pieces in Teenage Cancer Trust's Royal Albert Hall archive: two individual artworks documenting two bands from the same night.
