Shame Irving Plaza NYC Band Signed Photographic Print
Shame have built their reputation on live shows where the line between band and audience can quickly disappear. This photograph, taken at Irving Plaza in New York City, captures one of those moments perfectly, with frontman Charlie Steen leaning out over the crowd as hands reach back towards him.
Formed in South London in 2014, Shame emerged from the same fertile scene that produced some of the most exciting British guitar music of the past decade. From the raw post-punk of their 2018 debut Songs of Praise through Drunk Tank Pink, Food for Worms and 2025's Cutthroat, their sound has continued to evolve, but the intensity and physicality of their live performances has remained at the heart of the band.
The photograph is the work of Sacha Lecca, a New York-based photographer and longtime Rolling Stone photo editor whose career has been closely connected to music and live performance. His photography has appeared in Rolling Stone and numerous other publications and album covers, while his book The Opposite of Boredom brought together years spent photographing bands and audiences in the clubs and venues where live music comes alive.
For this edition, Lecca's original photograph has been transformed into a five-layer silk screen print on heavyweight 350gsm stock. The process gives the image a graphic, almost poster-like quality while retaining the movement and atmosphere of the original photograph, turning a fleeting moment in the crowd into a substantial piece of music artwork.
The print forms part of Good Energy, our series exploring the connection between artist and audience during live performance. Few images sum that idea up quite as directly as this one: Steen reaching out from the stage, the audience reaching back, and the space between the two disappearing.
Only 100 prints have been produced, with each one individually hand signed by Shame and supplied with a certificate of authenticity.
