The Joy Formidable 2026 Royal Albert Hall Band Signed Limited Edition Print
Created for The Joy Formidable’s 2026 appearance at the Royal Albert Hall for Teenage Cancer Trust, this limited-edition print pairs the Welsh band with an original artwork by designer Andy Vella, individually hand signed by the band.
The Joy Formidable have always made music with a sense of scale. Their 2011 debut The Big Roar established a sound built around huge guitars, melody and atmosphere, with Wolf’s Law, Hitch, AAARTH and Into the Blue taking that sound in different directions over the years.
They joined fellow Welsh artists Manic Street Preachers at the Royal Albert Hall on 26 March 2026, performing as special guests on a particularly significant night: the 150th Teenage Cancer Trust show at the venue. The concert formed part of the 2026 week curated by The Cure’s Robert Smith.
For the accompanying poster, Vella created something suitably energetic. The artwork is dominated by a warm burnt-orange ground, overlaid with sweeping black marks that twist and loop through the centre of the composition. Electric blue shapes, vivid pink circular forms and fine green lettering cut through the darker brushwork, giving the print a layered, restless quality.
There’s a particularly hands-on story behind those marks. While creating the 2026 series, Vella listened to the artists and developed each piece in response to their music. For The Joy Formidable, he experimented with Japanese inking techniques and even used sedum heads from his garden as a brush, helping create the loose, organic forms that run across the finished artwork.
That combination of controlled graphic elements and more spontaneous mark-making feels especially at home with The Joy Formidable. Rather than simply placing the band’s name over a conventional gig image, Vella has created a piece that carries some of the movement and intensity associated with their music.
Produced as an A2 JetPress print on heavyweight 300gsm stock by White Duck Editions in Bath, it forms part of Teenage Cancer Trust’s ongoing Royal Albert Hall music poster series, documenting the artists who have performed for the charity at the venue since the concerts began in 2000.
The edition is limited to 100 copies, each individually hand signed by The Joy Formidable and supplied with a certificate of authenticity.
