Level 42 2025 Royal Albert Hall Signed Screen Print
Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall
Created for Level 42’s Teenage Cancer Trust appearance at the Royal Albert Hall in March 2025, this signed limited-edition piece takes a much more modernist route than a traditional band print.
Designed by Hawaii, it builds the artwork from stacked geometric forms, oversized typography and a vivid fluorescent pink ground, with the band name broken apart and repeated across the composition.
The result suits Level 42 surprisingly well. Their music has always combined precision with movement, particularly through Mark King’s unmistakable bass playing, and there is something similarly rhythmic about the way this poster is constructed. Letters overlap, shapes shift in and out of alignment and the eye is pulled around the page rather than towards a single central image. It feels structured without feeling static.
Level 42 emerged from the British jazz-funk scene at the start of the 1980s, with Mark King’s slap-bass style becoming one of the band’s defining features. Over the following decade they developed into a major international pop act, with songs including Lessons in Love, Something About You, Running in the Family and The Sun Goes Down (Living It Up). Their sound moved easily between funk, pop, jazz and rock, giving them a musical identity that was distinctive even at the height of the 1980s chart era.
Their 2025 Teenage Cancer Trust appearances saw the band return to the Royal Albert Hall as special guests to The Who, performing on both 27 and 30 March. The set drew heavily on the best-known parts of their catalogue, including Running in the Family, Something About You, Lessons in Love and Hot Water.
For this poster, Hawaii avoids the obvious visual shorthand of instruments, portraits or 1980s nostalgia. Instead, the design centres on typography and spatial construction. The repeated “Level 42” lettering becomes part of the architecture of the image, intersecting with blocks, fine-line perspective drawings and areas of silver-grey against the pink background. Even the concert information is treated as part of the composition rather than simply placed underneath it.
The print forms part of Teenage Cancer Trust’s History of Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall poster series, celebrating artists who have performed in support of the charity since the concert programme began in 2000. This edition commemorates Level 42’s 2025 appearance with an artwork designed specifically around that performance.
Screen printed in three colours by White Duck Editions in Bath, the poster is produced on heavyweight 300gsm matt-coated stock.
