Keane Autographed Photographic Print

$76.00

Twenty years after Hopes and Fears introduced Keane to a huge international audience, the band took those songs back on the road for an anniversary tour that filled arenas around the world. This limited-edition Good Energy print captures Tom Chaplin in the middle of the crowd at Birmingham's Utilita Arena, photographed by Jon Stone and hand signed by Keane.

Released in 2004, Hopes and Fears went straight to number one in the UK, with Somewhere Only We Know, Everybody's Changing and Bedshaped among the songs that established Keane as one of the biggest British bands of the decade.

Keane returned to the album in 2024 to mark its 20th anniversary with a remastered edition and an extensive world tour. The Birmingham show took place on 4 May 2024, just days before the 20th anniversary of the album's original release on 10 May.

Stone's black-and-white photograph catches Tom Chaplin beyond the stage and right up against the audience. Shot from behind him, Chaplin dominates the foreground with one arm raised while hundreds of faces, hands and phones fill the arena behind him. The perspective makes the crowd every bit as important to the photograph as the performer.

Jon Stone travelled extensively with Keane during 2024, photographing the band throughout the Hopes and Fears anniversary year. His access gave him the opportunity to document the tour from close quarters, and at the end of the year Keane selected some of his favourite photographs to exhibit and sell as prints at their London pop-up shop. That closeness to the band comes through particularly well here: Stone is positioned right behind Chaplin as he moves towards the audience, placing the camera inside the action rather than observing it from a distance.

For a tour built around songs people had been living with for 20 years, it's a particularly fitting moment to capture. Chaplin is surrounded by the people who have carried those songs with them since Hopes and Fears, making the photograph as much about the audience as the band.

The image has been reproduced as an A2 five-layer silk screen print on 350gsm stock by White Duck Editions in Bath. Working entirely in black and white keeps the focus on the figures and movement within the photograph, from Chaplin at its centre to the mass of faces stretching into the darkness of the arena.

Only 100 copies have been produced, each individually hand signed by Keane and supplied with a certificate of authenticity.

Part of Teenage Cancer Trust's Good Energy series, the print celebrates the moments when the distance between performer and audience disappears and both become part of the same image.
