Johnny Marr 2015 Royal Albert Hall Gig Poster

For Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall

$40.00

A celebration of Johnny Marr at the Royal Albert Hall, created to mark his 2015 performance in support of Teenage Cancer Trust.

Marr arrived at the Royal Albert Hall with a solo career firmly established and a catalogue of songs behind him that had already shaped generations of British guitar music. His set brought those two worlds together, with tracks including Easy Money, Generate! Generate!, The Messenger and Back in the Box, alongside songs from his remarkable career, including an unforgettable performance of How Soon Is Now?

Created by Tommy Davidson-Hawley, the poster places a monochrome image of Marr and his unmistakable Jaguar guitar against a bold psychedelic backdrop of orange, teal and radiating circular forms. The contrast gives the artwork a distinctly retro feel, drawing on the visual language of classic gig posters while still feeling completely at home with Marr's own style.

The artwork is produced as a five-colour silk screen print on heavyweight 280gsm paper stock. The screen-printing process gives the colours and graphic elements a richness and physical quality that suits Davidson-Hawley's bold design, making this as much a piece of original music artwork as a record of the night itself.

Davidson-Hawley is an artist, musician and printmaker with deep roots in gig-poster culture. He founded independent print studio Prints of Thieves in 2011 and, alongside his visual work, is the drummer for Leeds rock band Pulled Apart By Horses. His portfolio includes official artwork for artists including Queens of the Stone Age, The Smashing Pumpkins and Muse.

The poster forms part of our History of Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall series, celebrating the artists and performances that have helped make the concerts such an important part of Britain's live music calendar since they began in 2000.

Printed at A2 size, it's a striking piece of original gig artwork in its own right, as well as a lasting reminder of Johnny Marr's night at the Royal Albert Hall.
