Enter Shikari Download Festival Band Signed Photographic Print

$90.00

Rou Reynolds, balanced above the barrier with a sea of hands reaching towards him. Jez Pennington's photograph of Enter Shikari at Download Festival captures the point where the band's performance has spilled beyond the stage and into the audience.

That kind of interaction has long been fundamental to Enter Shikari. Since emerging from St Albans in the mid-2000s, the band have built a reputation for shows that match the intensity of their music, mixing hardcore, rock and electronic music while deliberately breaking down the usual divide between stage and crowd. Albums from Take to the Skies and Common Dreads through to A Flash Flood of Colour, The Spark and A Kiss for the Whole World have continually shifted that sound rather than settling into a fixed formula.

The Download photograph is by Jez Pennington, whose work has documented artists and festivals across the UK live circuit. Here, the decision to shoot wide and from within the action is what makes the image work. Reynolds occupies the centre of the frame, but almost everything around him is audience: arms stretch in from every direction, phones appear between bodies and the barrier itself becomes part of the composition. Even the stage is pushed towards the edge.

It's a particularly direct expression of what Good Energy is about. There is no distant view of a performer playing to an anonymous festival crowd. Reynolds and the people in front of him occupy the same space, with the photograph catching the physical exchange between them at its most immediate.

Reproduced as an A2 five-layer silkscreen, the black-and-white image retains the grain, contrast and movement of Pennington's original photograph on heavyweight 350gsm stock. Production is by White Duck Editions in Bath, with an edition of only 100 prints, each individually hand signed by Enter Shikari and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
