Elbow Autographed Photographic Print
Elbow at full scale. Photographed by Peter Neill at London's O2 Arena, this panoramic black-and-white image captures the band, their full live production and thousands of people sharing the room with them. Limited to 100 prints, each copy is individually hand signed by Elbow.
The photograph was taken on 9 May 2024, during Elbow's Audio Vertigo tour, their first UK arena tour since 2018. The tour followed the release of the band's tenth studio album, Audio Vertigo, and saw them return to the kind of huge spaces that suit songs such as Grounds for Divorce, Lippy Kids and One Day Like This particularly well.
Rather than isolating Guy Garvey or a single moment on stage, Peter Neill pulls back to show the entire spectacle. Elbow and their accompanying musicians stretch across the width of the stage beneath banks of lights, with the band's name illuminated behind them and the audience forming a dense silhouette across the bottom of the image. The scale is a huge part of what makes the photograph work.
Neill has photographed some of the world's biggest artists and has spoken about actively looking for ways to show the energy of the room, rather than simply photographing the performer. For him, including the crowd is an important part of showing what a live performance actually felt like. That approach is particularly evident here, where the audience, stage and production all contribute to the photograph rather than existing as separate elements.
It also makes this a slightly different take on the idea behind Good Energy. The connection isn't a singer disappearing into the crowd or hands reaching towards the stage. It's the collective scale of an arena show: thousands of people gathered in front of one band, with the photograph preserving the whole room rather than just the people performing in it.
Produced by White Duck Editions in Bath, the photograph has been transformed into a five-layer silkscreen print on heavyweight 350gsm stock. The monochrome image works particularly well at A2 size, preserving the haze, spotlights and enormous illuminated backdrop while retaining the mass of the audience below.
Only 100 prints have been produced, each individually hand signed by Elbow and supplied with a certificate of authenticity.
