Doves - There Goes The Fear (Live at The Royal Albert Hall) 10" Vinyl

Doves live at the Royal Albert Hall 10" Vinyl Single

$36.00

Doves' return to the Royal Albert Hall after nine years away from the stage, captured on limited-edition 10-inch vinyl.

On 29 March 2019, Doves headlined Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall for their first performance together since 2010. After almost a decade pursuing separate projects, Jimi Goodwin, Jez Williams and Andy Williams reunited for the charity, with The Coral and The Fernweh joining them on the bill.

The night became a celebration of the catalogue Doves had built since emerging from Manchester at the end of the 1990s. Their set reached back to debut album Lost Souls and continued through The Last Broadcast, Some Cities and Kingdom of Rust, bringing together songs including The Cedar Room, Caught by the River, Pounding, Black and White Town and Kingdom of Rust. For a band returning after nine years away, it was fitting that the final song of the encore was There Goes the Fear.

Originally released in 2002 as the first single from Doves' second album, The Last Broadcast, There Goes the Fear became their highest-charting UK single, reaching number three. The Last Broadcast followed later that month and became the band's first UK number-one album.

There's also a particularly nice connection between the original single and this Teenage Cancer Trust release. In 2002, There Goes the Fear was itself issued on 10-inch vinyl, alongside a CD edition, with both formats deliberately deleted on the day they were released. More than two decades later, the song returns to the same format, this time preserving the performance that closed Doves' comeback show at the Royal Albert Hall.

Pressed on yellow 10-inch vinyl and limited to just 250 copies, this edition puts the live recording on the A-side while the reverse features Jamie Hewlett's Teenage Cancer Trust mascot etched directly into the B-side. Rather than treating the second side as somewhere for another track, the etched artwork makes the record itself part of the design.

The release forms part of the Teenage Cancer Trust 10" Singles Club, celebrating 25 years of live music at the Royal Albert Hall through specially selected recordings from the charity's concert archive. Each release takes a particular performance from that history and gives it a physical release of its own.
