Created for Ash's 2003 Teenage Cancer Trust show at the Royal Albert Hall, this limited-edition print revisits the night through an original illustration by Andreea Dumuta, with each copy hand signed by Tim Wheeler, Mark Hamilton and Rick McMurray.

By 2003, Ash already had a formidable run of records behind them. The teenage rush of 1977 had been followed by Nu-Clear Sounds and the hugely successful Free All Angels, bringing songs including Girl From Mars, Goldfinger, Shining Light and Burn Baby Burn. Their Royal Albert Hall appearance came as the band were beginning the next phase of their career, with Meltdown arriving the following year.

Ash played on 28 March 2003 alongside Supergrass, as part of six nights of Teenage Cancer Trust concerts that also featured Coldplay, Eric Clapton, Richard Ashcroft, Doves and Madness. The Royal Albert Hall archive records Ash's line-up that night as Tim Wheeler, Mark Hamilton, Rick McMurray and Charlotte Hatherley.

Rather than take the obvious route with a band portrait, Andreea Dumuta gives the poster its own strange little world. A black dog wearing a space helmet leaps across the surface of an orange planet, surrounded by stars and flashes of colour against a near-black sky. Above it, the band's name appears in huge cream lettering with an orange shadow, giving the whole design a wonderfully retro, space-age character.

The combination of oversized typography, bold illustration and a tightly controlled colour palette gives the poster plenty of character without becoming overly busy. It's playful, slightly surreal and immediately different from a conventional piece of gig artwork.

Produced as a four-colour screen print on heavyweight 300gsm stock, the A2 artwork was printed by Prints of Thieves in Leeds. The screen-printing process particularly suits Dumuta's bold blocks of colour and fine illustrated detail, from the dog's fur and space helmet to the textured surface of the planet beneath it.

The edition is limited to 100 copies, each individually hand signed by Tim Wheeler, Mark Hamilton and Rick McMurray and supplied with a certificate of authenticity.

Part of our History of Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall music poster series, the print brings together an original interpretation of Ash and a show from the early years of the charity's long-running relationship with the venue.
